Can I Change Jobs if I See Something Better Elsewhere ?

The 457 Visa, which you will be granted, is linked to your employer sponsorship. Some exeptions are possible.

We strongly advise all doctors to carefully read the conditions of their visa once issued.

2
Visa Conditions
457 Temporary stay of suitably qualified medical practitioner where there is a demonstrated need to employ practitioners from overseas Sponsorship is required regardless of the period of stay
You must not breach condition 8107 *

* Condition 8107 states:
Condition of your subclass 422 visa is that you must not change employer. You must not also undertake other employment. If you wish to change employer or occupation you must apply for a new visa beforehand. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your visa and removal from Australia of you and any family members.

On your visa sponsorship letter, will be written:
If something Changes

Approval for stay as a temporary resident is conditional upon the visa applicant's continued employment with your organisation, in the position specified on the sponsorship form. The visa applicant must not change employer in Australia without first obtaining the written approval of this department. If the visa applicant breaches this condition the visa maybe cancelled.

3
How long does my visa last ?

Medical Practitioner visas can now be issued for 4 years, if agreed by the employer and this can be extended if needed. However 4 years is usually suficient to enable a doctor to complete fellowship and apply for permanent residency.

Nursing and Allied Health Processionals are issued a 457 long Stay visa with a life of 4 years.

4
Can I Apply for Permanent Residency?

Doctors & Specialists must obtain unconditional medical registration. This is only possible via a fellowship or a full-time 2year university appointment before they can apply for PR

Nursing and Allied Health Professional's are issued unconditional registration by the Australian registration boards and therefore can apply for PR after after probationary periods have been successfully completed, and contracts extend for a minimum of two or three years, depending on the visa type.

5
Do I need an Employer Sponsorship for Permanent Residency?
